Unbalance in machinery puts excessive load on bearings and all other components, including the machine structure itself. The unbalance forces also excite resonances, cause looseness and fatigue failure, generate noise, and in certain circumstances, result in poor product quality. It has also been found that machines that are out of balance consume more energy.
The bottom line: you must achieve precision balance.
One of the challenges in this day and age is that modern vibration analyzers will guide a person through the balancing process without the operator truly understanding what’s going on. If everything goes smoothly, then you will achieve a reduction in unbalance vibration. In many cases, the unbalance forces are not reduced as desired.
The Precision Field Balancing course is highly visual and filled with animations that make everything crystal clear.
This course provides step-by-step training, one slide at a time. The narrations add up to three hours and 12 minutes, but it will take longer to complete the training.
The topics include:
- What is unbalance
- What causes machines to be out of balance
- Understanding phase
- Phase conventions
- Advanced phase
- Understanding vectors
- Balancing theory
- Different types of unbalance
- Diagnosing unbalance
- Confusing unbalance with other fault conditions
- Preparing for the balance job
- Single plane
- Single plane vector balancing
- Two plane balancing
- Static-couple balancing
- Balancing overhung rotors
- Four run no phase balancing
- Trial weight selection
- Splitting and combining weights
- What can go wrong – and how to recover
- Tolerances and quality and the ISO standards
- Tolerances and quality and the API MIL standards
This training will prepare any vibration analyst or practitioner with the knowledge and skills they need to achieve precision balance, which is so important to the reliability of the equipment. Reliability engineers and maintenance supervisors would also benefit from this training.
